National Doctors Day celebrates the contribution of physicians.
The first Doctor's Day observance was on March 30, 1933, in Winder, Georgia. It commemorates Dr. Crawford W Long's first surgical use of an anesthetic agent on March 30, 1842.
Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians.
On October 30, 1990, President George Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 designated March 30 as National Doctor's Day.
