First held in Zambia in 2003, the event spread to the United States in 2009 and continued to grow across the globe.
Orphan Sunday (Stand Sunday in the United States) is an international outreach organized locally through various Christian churches and parishes. Christians are encouraged to stand for children who've lost the protection and care of family, defend the fatherless, protect the vulnerable and visit orphans in distress.
The goal of orphan Sunday is: "that God's great love for the orphan will find an echo in our lives as well."
