National Cherries Jubilee Day honors the British dessert, which includes cherries, sauce, and brandy over vanilla ice cream. The dessert is then lit on fire, creating a blue flame.
Auguste Escoffie created this dessert for Queen Victoria of England's 1897 Diamond Jubilee celebration. The event was held on Sunday, June 20, 1897, and marked the 60th anniversary of her throne inheritance.
