The Yuan Xiao Lantern Festival dates back to 100 BC and is one of the more colorful events in China. It always occurs fifteen days after the Chinese New Year, (usually in February or early March).
Celebrations include family reunions, eating yuan Xiao, (stuffed rice balls), fireworks, sparing with lantern riddles, performing folk dances and releasing lanterns into the night air.
