DESCRIPTION:
Believed to be a miracle, in the 1650s, the city of Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy, somehow managed to escape the plague sweeping Europe. Locals believe it was the intervention of Saint Efisio. In1656 a vow was made to honor the third century Saint. Since 1657, the city has held a festival during the first days of May, including a parade covering 65 km, period costumes, music and entertainment, as a commemoration of the event.
