National Almond Buttercrunch Day commemorates almond buttercrunch, created in 1923.
This candy was made popular during World War II when it was shipped to soldiers overseas. Brown & Haley, a candy company, developed the recipe and packaging. Known as Almond Roca because of its almonds and the fact that it looked like rocks, almond buttercrunch is made with butter, sugar, salt, and almonds mixed and melted to form the “rocks” and stored in tin cans.
