Coalition to Prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) began sponsoring Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month in March 2003 with a mission of highlighting the potentially fatal complications of pulmonary embolism (PE) / deadly blood clots.
The risk of DVT and PE increases with age; anyone can be affected by deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Even Serena Williams, the professional tennis player, suffered a pulmonary embolism.
This disease affects people from all walks of life, ages, and races.
