DESCRIPTION:
On April 9, 1938, thousands of Tunisians took to the streets of Tunis, protesting French colonial rule and demanding a Tunisian parliament on their behalf. The French put down the protest, shooting into the crowd and killing 20 people. Martyrs' Day marks this event and commences the fight for independence. Tunisia would reach its aspiration on July 25, 1957.
