National Trails Day is the first Saturday of June.
Sponsored by the American Hiking Society, this promotion aims to raise awareness of the benefits of the trails, encourage people to take part in trail hiking and become vigilant in trail maintenance.
Created during the late 1980s, National Trails Day is an initiative of outdoor enthusiasts and government officials who wanted to show the public the vast resources of the interconnecting National Trails System. This celebration also honors the volunteers who care for trails and keep them pristine.
