Since 1962, the President of the United States has proclaimed the third week of March as National Poison Prevention Week to raise awareness about the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them.
US poison centers answer millions of calls a year. About 90 percent of the people who call with poison emergencies can be treated at home by following the advice of poison center experts, saving over one billion dollars in medical expenses.
