DESCRIPTION:
The Blackpool Illumination has been a major tourist attraction since 1879, drawing 3.5 million visitors a year. The spectacle of lights features over 400,000 lamps covering approximately 5 miles of waterfront along the Promenade in Blackpool, Lancashire, in the northwest United Kingdom. The first Friday of September typically includes a massive 'flip the switch' party, and the lights stay up until January 1.
