Towns Week in the Philippines highlights the importance of local governance, community development, and the unique cultural heritage of the towns nationwide. The Greater Manila Area, also known as Metro Manila, is a significant part of the national capital region, comprising 16 cities and 1 municipality. These urban centers, including major cities like Manila, Quezon City, and Makati, as well as the lone municipality of Pateros, collectively contribute to the bustling urban environment of the region.
Towns Week was initiated in the early 2000s to respond to the need for stronger local governance and community engagement. The event aims to promote awareness of towns and municipalities' role in the broader scope of national progress.
