Communities will hold collection weeks and observance days throughout April. Dates vary by location. One Day Without Shoes is a day designed to bring global awareness to children's health and education by going without shoes for the day. The event is the brainchild of Toms Shoes, an American company with a unique philanthropic edge. The company donates a pair to a needy child for each pair of shoes they sell.
The event had its website between 2009 and 2013. Since 2014, Tom's corporate site and social media presence have handled all details of this annual event. Toms appears to have stopped this event as of 2018. However, Cornhuskers Bank has picked up the flag and sponsors it in April.
