As the holidays approach, Give the Gift of Sight Month reminds everyone to check their eyes before the end of the year when Healthcare Spending Accounts reset. Additional actions you can take to protect your eyes include:
Wear Sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays; wear sunglasses that block 99 to 100% of both UV-A and UV-B radiation and lower your risk of cataracts and other eye damage.
Limit Screen Time on digital devices can lead to eye strain. Take a break every 20 minutes and look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Adjust your screen's brightness, text size, and contrast to make it eye-friendly.
Regular Check-ups, including eye exams, can detect issues early when they're most treatable. Optometrists recommend adults have a comprehensive eye exam every one to two years or more frequently if they have certain risk factors.
When coupled with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and avoiding smoking, each of these steps can contribute significantly to maintaining your eye health.
