Estimated date. Actual date set in mid spring. Shark Week is television's longest running (July 17, 1988 first aired) must-see summer TV event and it airs each summer on Discovery Channel. Shark Week includes live talk shows, documentaries and all things sharks. Aquariums and other forms of amusement tied to oceans and the sea often have specials during Shark Week throughout the country.
Shark Week is the programming week that put Discovery Channel on the cable dial in 1986.
