Big Butterfly Count falls on the second week of July and ends on the first week of August. This is a nationwide survey held update the status of the environment. Created seven years ago, this has become the biggest butterfly counting survey event in the UK, with more than 400, 000 butterflies being counted last year. People flock to parks, school grounds, gardens and forests to count butterflies during a sunny day. There is an identification chart you can download at www.bigbutterflycount.org. You can also log in your butterfly findings on that said website. The actual event is sponsored by Butterfly Conservation.
Butterflies are environmental indicators for if there is a decline in the number of butterflies, it means there is wildlife los. Apart from that, it is also important that butterflies are being counted to protect butterfly species that are already endangered.
