DESCRIPTION:
All Hallows Eve and All Saints Day are Christian observances first declared by the Catholic Church in the 8th Century AD.
It is a time of feasting during the day to honor those whom have been sainted and those soon to be sainted, and reflection at night. In England it was considered a time of penance, to reflect on the souls of those sanctioned to purgatory, whom through quiet vigil would be released into the kingdom of heaven.
The time of the year is chosen as it is the precipice of fall into winter and this represents the end of the summer harvest, the entering of winter and the preparation for renewal in the spring. It is a metaphor for the transition from life, to death to eternal life and salvation.
