Shaun McLaughlin created black Family Month in New York to focus on the needs of Black families. The month utilizes the tradition of family reunions to get the community involved. Involvement includes supplying free health services, education, and entertainment opportunities.
Families are encouraged to do activities together such as reading, family dinners, classes, and attend annual check-ups.
The organizers are no longer available for this event; however, tradition has it on the calendar, and it continues to be observed by African American families throughout the country.
