Leon Day celebrates Leon Day (October 30, 1916 - March 13, 1995), one of the greatest baseball pitchers of all time. He played in the Negro Leagues between 1934-1949.
On July 23, 1942, Day struck out 18 players from the Baltimore Elite Giants, setting the record for the league. Leon fought for the US military during WWII and continued his career in baseball by pitching a no-hitter on opening day in 1946.
Day received induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995. Today is the anniversary of his birth.
