National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week has been observed since 1983 and is promoted by Critical Mass-The Young Adult Cancer Alliance and other entities involved in the treatment of cancer within young populations. It has three main objectives:

Create structural change to develop AYA cancer care and delivery as a specialized field.
Reframe survivorship to go beyond short-term survival rates and instead evaluate and eliminate long-term barriers that adolescent and young adult survivors face when returning to life as a contributing member of society.
