Today is the 10th Anniversary of the Israeli navy’s attack on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla in 2010.
The Gaza flotilla raid was a military operation conducted by Israel against six civilian ships in international waters on the Mediterranean Sea. Nine activists are killed during the raid, eight Turkish and one American.
The flotilla was organized by the "Free Gaza Movement" and the Turkish Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief (iHH). It was carrying humanitarian aid and construction materials to the besieged Gaza Strip which had been under complete Israeli blockade since 2007.
International outrage over the incident was immediate and drastically shook the Turkey-Israel relations. As of 2020, the Gaza Strip is still under complete military control of the Israeli military with limited movement of goods and people in or out.
Gaza Strip has been occupied and/or quarantined by the Israeli army since 1967.
