Legacy Week, also called Badge Day, first ran in 1942. Promoted by Legacy Australia, the organization describes this week's mission thus:
"Legacy Week is the annual national appeal to raise awareness and funds for our incapacitated and deceased veterans' families.
It is held in big and small towns across Australia and is supported by the young and older adults.
The funds raised from Legacy Week help Legacy continue to assist approximately 60,000 beneficiaries, with 96% of them being elderly widows throughout Australia, with essential services such as counseling, special housing, medical, advocacy, and social support."
