Do Something Nice Day is an unofficial event with no sponsor. Its purpose is to encourage us to try and be better people by taking care of someone's needs or problems.
Over the years, via misinformation, it is possible that this day originated with Sweetest Day, the third Saturday in October. It is unusual to find two days with the same objective so close to each other on the calendar. Sweetest Day is an official day to "do something nice" for others. A candy company founded that day in 1922.
