World Pneumonia Day was established in 2009 and is sponsored by various organizations, including the Global Coalition Against Child Pneumonia.
This promotion aims to raise awareness about pneumonia, the leading killer of children under 5. Participants provide tools to help prevent and treat this disease and create a global action against this disease. During this time, celebrity ambassadors help get the message across.
Pneumonia vaccines are available for those at high risk, including the elderly.
