Leave it to the Aussies to make sport of one of the most reviled insects in the world, the cockroach. Each year on Australia Day, Brisbane Australia celebrates with the Cockroach Races, cockroach beauty contests, and cockroach fashion shows. All proceeds go to charities. This event first ran in 1982.
