The advent of cable television and more channels during the 1980s made owning a VCR necessary to record programs or play your films. The VCR remained a key component of entertainment systems through the 1990s. It was replaced by DVD players, which were soon replaced by DVR systems.
VCR technology involves having a mechanical device that records sound and images in analog form on a video cassette. Convenience was its greatest asset as it can be paused and played again anytime wanted.
