Originally called Frogurt, frozen yogurt was invented by HP Hood in 1970. With the health food craze of the 1970s, it quickly gained popularity as an alternative to ice cream. In the 1980s, seizing upon the demand and opportunity, the TCBY chain of frozen yogurt stores was opened. By 1986, frozen yogurt had become a $25 million a year industry. In 2019 it became a $2.1 billion dollar industry.
