DESCRIPTION:
Butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera) are distinguishable between other winged insects because their wings are covered in scales.
Most butterflies are very colorful and you will see them during the day. The antenna of butterflies have notches at the end, bent somewhat to look like a golf club. Moths have antennas like cats whiskers, long and ending in a point.
Butterflies live on the nectar of flowers, and like bees, help with pollination. The average lifespan of a butterfly is 3-4 weeks. Currently there are about 20,000 species of butterflies with 10% of the world's population in Mexico.
