DESCRIPTION:
Today is the anniversary of the first American Football League (AFL) meeting in 1959. In 1969, it merged with the National Football League (NFL).
Merger conditions included a championship game between the two leagues and in-common drafts. The championship game would eventually lead to one of the most popular events in the United States, the Super Bowl.
The National Football League was founded on August 20, 1920.
