DESCRIPTION:
Shortbread Day celebrates the Scottish medieval biscuit twice-baked with sugar and spices.
Shortbread originated in the early 12th century when the Crusaders brought sugar back from west Asia and introduced it to Europe. Other scholars attribute its invention to Mary, Queen of Scots, in the 16th century.
