DESCRIPTION:
The southern African mountain nation of Lesotho greets each spring with its National Tree Planting Day. The nation itself is high in the mountains and has few trees. A barren land of savanna and alpine shrubs, the first colonial settlers began planting trees in the country in 1833.
Currently, the Forestry Department aims to achieve five percent tree cover by planting hundreds of thousands of trees yearly.
