DESCRIPTION:
Saint Francis was an Italian priest who lived in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Zealous, he spent his life working on missions supported by the Holy Roman Church.
St. Francis is best known for his love for animals and nature. He is often described as spending much of his time outdoors, listening to birds and talking with animals. That is why he is usually portrayed with a bird in his hand today. Many people take their pets to a church on St. Francis Day to receive a blessing. The Church often holds up St. Francis to urge people to take better care of the environment and follow his example.
