Congenital Cytomegalovirus Awareness Month is declared by the United States government to increase awareness of this viral disease.
Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) is one of the most common congenital diseases in the US. This can cause birth defects among infants including blindness and physical disabilities. Because of the virulence of this virus, pregnant women are at risk. To avoid contamination, frequent hand washing, and not sharing food or utensils are important.
