DESCRIPTION:
All you need is a 7-9 pound ball of Gloucester cheese, good running legs and a sense of humor for the 300 yard downhill race and festival held each year in Cooper's Hill England on the last Monday in May. Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling Competition is a tradition going back to the Roman occupation nearly 2,000 years ago and has been held every year for the past 200. Whilst Americans BBQ hotdogs for Memorial Day, the Brits are racing and rolling cheese. How fun is that!
This event was officially cancelled in 2010 due to safety and insurance concerns...but that didn't stop it. A fan favorite, over 4,000 people a year still head for Cooper's Hill and celebrate the running of the cheese.
