Physicians Assistant Week begins on the anniversary of the graduation of the first Physician's Assistant from Duke University on October 6, 1967.
The idea for the profession came two years prior in 1965. Created by Dr. Eugene Stead at the Duke Medical Center, today hundreds of thousands people work as physician's assistants.
This week is an outreach month designed to educate people on the role of physicians assistants and attract students to the profession.
