Around 1488 BC the Torah, the holy book of Judaism, teaches that Joshua crossed the River Jordan with the Israelites into the Promised Land during the 10th month of the Hebrew Calendar, Nisan. In 2016, the Israeli Knesset voted to make the 7th of Cheshvan, Aliyah Day to mark this event and pay tribute to the contributions of Jewish immigrants to the State.
