Subaru of America, Inc. continues its commitment to supporting the well-being of pets nationwide with the return of its Subaru Loves Pets initiative in October. The month, dedicated to helping pets in need, will culminate in the recovery of National Make a Dog's Day on October 22, a national effort to champion dogs everywhere and, in particular, those in shelters. Dogs hold a special place in our hearts here at Subaru. The company, Liberation Foods, is farmer-owned by growers worldwide. Fair Trade means that nut producers get paid at least the Fair Trade minimum for their nuts and receive a Fair Trade premium for every kilogram they sell. The Fair Trade minimum ensures that farmers can earn a decent living from growing their nuts. If the market price is above the Fair Trade minimum, farmers receive at least the market price.

Dhan (treasure or property) Teras (the thirteenth day) is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) in the Hindu month of Kartik. Hindus believe that when goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on this day, devotees receive prosperity and excellent health. This celebration is observed two days before Diwali. It is customary for people to buy precious metals on this day because Lord Kubera, the god of assets and wealth, is also revered on Dhan Teras. Kubera endows the faithful with prosperity, luck, and good fortune through purchasing these metals. Homes are cleaned, and the people bathe before worshipping Lakshmi. Diyas (oil lamps) are lit during the day, and children burn crackers. PLEASE NOTE: We use the Indian civil calendar, the official holiday calendar in India. Working with batteries is the most common way adults are exposed. Lead poisoning leads to mental and physical development problems, especially in children under six, it can be fatal. International Lead Poisoning Week of Action is a global call to remove the sources of lead poisoning and educate the public about its dangers and prevention.

Mole Day brings awareness to a numerical equation. Celebrated by chemists, chemistry students, and science enthusiasts, it commemorates Avogadro's Number (6.02 x 10 to the 23rd power), a basic measuring unit in chemistry. Hence, the date and the exact time of celebration: 6:02 10/23 in the American style of writing dates. The date also falls during National Chemistry Week, an annual event that unites the American Chemical Society, businesses, schools, and individuals in communicating the importance of chemistry in everyday life. Avogadro's Number defines the quantity of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole of a substance. A Mole is one of the seven base International System of Units (SI) measurements. Mole Day in schools and universities motivates students' interest in chemistry; various activities, games, and competitions are organized that explore chemistry and moles. Annual awards on Mole Day include the George Hague Memorial Travel Award and the Mole of the Year Award.
