Raynaud's Awareness Month (UK): February

Observed in the United Kingdom by wearing gloves for the day, the mission of the Raynaud's Awareness Month is to provide educational and emotional support for people with Raynaud's, their families and raise funds to find a cure. Sometime during the late 1850's a 27-year old French woman noticed that the fingers of both hands had become pale and cold. Over the next few weeks the tips of some of her fingers shriveled and turned black, causing her great pain and discomfort. The doctor who attended her was an equally young man, Maurice Raynaud. He noted the condition and began to study it. Raynaud's disease is akin to veins strangling the blood supply to extremities and asphyxiating hands, feet, toes and fingers. The lack of blood causes the extremities to die. Inevitably, the condition came to be known as Raynaud's Disease or simply Raynaud's. Dr. Raynaud died at the age of 47 in 1881, but his work identifying the disease and looking for a cure continues.

Spay/Neuter Awareness Month: February

Spay/Neuter Awareness Month is an international awareness campaign highlighting spay and neuter programs implemented by animal shelters and rescue organizations so to increase community awareness and support. Local veterinarians also offer discounted spaying and neutering at their clinics, or provide seminars on the importance of neutering and spaying. World Spaying/Neutering Month is part of the Human Society International and Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association. Oftentimes, governments employ cruel means such as shooting and putting animals to sleep in solving the increasing number of homeless animals in the community. Neutering or spaying reduces the number of litters stray animals produce.

Teen DV Month (National Resource Center for Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month), is sponsored by Break the Cycle and loveisrespect.com as a collaborative effort. This event began in 2010 Break the Cycle is a leading national voice for the prevention of dating violence among teens and young adults and partners with a number of prestigious organizations including MTV and the White House. One goal of Break the Cycle is to create programming that empowers teens and young adults to end violence. Break the Cycle's Teen DV Month reaches more than one million youth and adults annually.
