Capitalizing upon a successful United Nation's Year of Pulses in 2016, beginning in 2019 February 10, has been set aside as World Pulse Day. Pulses are edible seeds. World Pulses Day aims to heighten public awareness of the nutritional benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production aimed towards food security and nutrition. The day creates a unique opportunity to encourage connections throughout the food chain that would better utilize pulse-based proteins, further global production of pulses, better implement crop rotations and address the challenges in the trade of pulses.

How to Make a Friend Day is an unofficial holiday that came about through word-of-mouth. What is interesting is in researching this we attempted to find a national or global non-profit dedicated to helping people nurture interpersonal relationships that could be used as a source for story ideas. There does not seem to be one; yet friendships and the ability to build them remain one of the top indicators of a happy and healthy life. The closest we could come was the Dale Carnegie Institute, which focuses more on business and networking than learning friend making and maintaining skills from an early age through life.

Peppermint Patty Day: February 11

If you've ever needed an excuse to eat chocolate and peppermint, today you have it. In 1940, Henry C. Kessler began selling peppermint cream covered in dark chocolate patty. He named it after the city, York, Pennsylvania, where he lived. It is unknown if February 11, 1940 is the day it first went on sale or was invented. It remained a regional treat until 1972 when Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company purchased Kessler's company and took the product national in 1975. In 1978, Peter Paul merged with Cadbury, which was acquired by Hershey in 1988.

Professional Sports Wives Day is set aside each year since 2006 to focus on the unique responsibilities, challenges and roles of the families and friends behind our favorite athletes. Like everyone, they have the same challenges in marriage and raising children. However they have the additional challenges ranging from celebrity and long periods of absence to careers cut short by injury or death. Representing active and retired athletes and numbering close to 500,000 in the United States, sports wives remain the foundation to success in the $213 billion professional sports industry. This is a day to honor the women, children, parents and friends behind the professional athletes and all they do to help them succeed.

Sick, World Day of (C)(1858): February 11

World Day of the Sick is a feast day of the Roman Catholic Church instituted on May 13, 1992 by Pope John Paul II. Beginning on February 11, 1993, World Day of the Sick is celebrated every year on the day of commemoration of Our Lady of Lourdes. All Christians are urged to seek 'a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one's suffering'. Pope John Paul II was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease as early as 1991, an illness he disclosed later. It is significant that he decided to create a World Day of the Sick one year after his diagnosis. The Pope had written a great deal on the topic of suffering and believed in redemption and salvation through Christ. The feast of Lourdes was chosen because many pilgrims and visitors to Lourdes have reportedly been healed by intercessions of the Blessed Virgin. This event falls on the anniversary of the first appearance of the Virgin Mary to Saint Bernadette in Lourdes, France in 1858.
