Clergy Appreciation Day falls on the second Sunday of October during Clergy Appreciation Month. This event began as Pastor Appreciation Day, founded by Jerry Frear of Under His Wings. It later became Clergy Appreciation Month, a month that opens up to faith leaders (Rabbis, Monks, Imams, Priests) of all faiths. Frear started the original Pastor Appreciation Day based upon a survey he and his staff conducted in 1992 that found a large portion of clergy were unhappy in their jobs. The focus of the day is celebrating everything faith leaders do to minister to their flocks and support the local community. Over the course of a few years it became clear that an entire month was needed, and that clergy of other faiths should also be recognized. The focus on appreciating clergy seems to be working. Most faith leaders when asked today are devoted to their work and feel a strong desire to work with their communities. Clergy Appreciation Month is about saying thank you to the shepherds of faith and learning more about what they do every day.

Double Ten Day in Taiwan (and secretly celebrated in China by many), commemorates the October 10,1911, Wuchang Uprising, an event that lead to the end of the Qing Dynasty and helped to create the Republic of China. These events can be seen in the Academy Award winning film, The Last Emperor. Double Ten Day is enthusiastically celebrated in Taiwan and by its diaspora. The island nation would eventually would split off from China. To this day, China claims Taiwan as its territory and the Taiwanese claim independence and sovereignty from China.

World Squittleday, a combination of squid and cuttlefish, celebrates the squid and cuttlefish, one of four species of cephalopods. Squid and cuttlefish look similar, however squid are very fast predators and cuttlefish take their time, moving slowly. Squid look like torpedoes, whereas cuttlefish are broader, a little more roomy per-say. Both have internal shells. Cephalopods are a species of marine animals and include squid, octopuses, cuttlefish, and nautiluses. There are over 800 species in the world and they've been with us for over 300,000 years. Each year, marine scientist throughout the world celebrate International Cephalopods Awareness Days in October as a teaching tool and a call for marine environmental preservation.
