Yom HaAliyah School Observance (IL): October 22/23

Yom HaAliyah School Observance is the day when Israeli schoolchildren celebrate the events of the tenth day of the Hebrew month of Nisan, the day in the year 1406 BCE the waters of the Jordan River parted to allow the Israelites (also known as Canaanites or Hebrews) their first steps into the Egyptian region of Canaan, later called Palestine beginning with the Romans. Over 3300 years later, a portion of the area would become the modern nation-state of Israel in 1948.

The nation also celebrates Yom HaAliyah, or Aliya Day, a holiday relatively recent addition to the Israeli calendar, first recognized by the Knesset in 2016. Yom HaAliyah celebrates the immigration of persons of the Jewish faith to Israel exclusively; in Israel, this immigration of Jewish people to Israel is known as "aliyah."

ACE Week: October 23-29

As part of the drive for inclusion in definitions of gender and sexual orientation and to promote greater visibility and acceptance of their lifestyle, a community of asexual persons (those with a lack of sexual attraction or absent sexual desire) created ACE WEEK. It seeks to encourage support in the LGBTQ+ community for all versions of asexuality. This event was first held in 2010 and is planned annually during the last week of October. Sexual orientation is defined as Heterosexual, Homosexual, Bisexual, and Asexual.

The ninth day of the ninth lunar month in the Chinese calendar is the Double Ninth Festival, Chung Yeung Festival in Hong Kong, the Chōyō or Chrysanthemum Festival in Japanese, and the Trùng Cửu in Vietnamese.

Double nine is considered a dangerous date in Asian culture. Casually, the day is called the Double Yang Festival; two nines are believed to be overabundant in "yang."

It is customary to climb a high mountain to protect from danger, drink chrysanthemum liquor, and wear the zhu yu plant.

This holiday seems to have originated between 25 BC and 25 AD.

Mole Day brings awareness to a numerical equation. Celebrated by chemists, chemistry students, and science enthusiasts, it commemorates Avogadro's Number (6.02 x 10 to the 23rd power), a basic measuring unit in chemistry. Hence, the date and the exact time of celebration: 6:02 10/23 in the American style of writing dates.

The date also falls during National Chemistry Week, an annual event that unites the American Chemical Society, businesses, schools, and individuals in communicating the importance of chemistry in everyday life. Avogadro's Number defines the quantity of particles (atoms or molecules) in one mole of a substance.

A Mole is one of the seven base International System of Units (SI) measurements. Mole Day in schools and universities motivates students' interest in chemistry; various activities, games, and competitions are organized that explore chemistry and moles. Annual awards on Mole Day include the George Hague Memorial Travel Award and the Mole of the Year Award.
