Bom dia! The date of 5 May is celebrated as "World Portuguese Language Day" to honor the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures. This day was officially established in 2009 by the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), which is in partnership with UNESCO. The Portuguese language is widely spoken, with over 265 million speakers across the globe, making it one of the most widespread languages. It is also the most commonly spoken language in the southern hemisphere. Portuguese continues to be an important language for international communication and is expected to grow in prominence in the future.

The first Friday of May each year is International Tuba Day. Joel Day created International Tuba Day in 1979 while still a student at Philadelphia's Lower Merion High School. As one of only two tuba players in the band and getting very little respect from his fellow bandmates, he created a day to recognize all tuba players as the musicians they are. He later attended Millersville University. Doctor Sy Brandon, formerly of Millersville University, completed two books for International Tuba Day, including American folk and international musical arrangements for the tuba.

Vesak or Wesak is commonly referred to as Buddha Day and is acknowledged by the United Nations on the full moon in May (Vaisakha, a month of the Buddhist calendar that Hindus share). It is the day the Buddhist faith marks the dawning of the age of enlightenment known as Nirv?na. The exact date varies depending on the country and traditions; the most common date is this. Buddhists mark this day with meditation, observing the eight precepts, partaking in vegetarianism, giving to charity, and bathing Buddha statues. Traditionally, Buddhists set this day aside to bring happiness to the unfortunate, including the elderly, handicapped, and sick. They do so by distributing gifts or cash to various charitable homes nationwide. Vesak became an official Buddhist holiday in 1950; it parallels in importance the Christian celebration of Christmas and the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

The purpose is to ask consumers to support Black-owned businesses on this day by shopping at them or giving their patronage. Musician DJ Swiss created it.
