Quitting smoking for the day is the most common way to observe this day. Kick Butts Day was first held in 1996 and is sponsored by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Nonbinary or Queer Pride Day honors the birthday of performance artist and gender theorist Katherine Vandam Bornstein, born March 15, 1948. Bornstein, a leader in the LGBTQ+ community, self-declared as gender non-conforming or queer in 1986. Non-conformists do not believe or see themselves as male or female but somewhere in-between, irrespective of biology. Bernstein is a pioneering advocate for the use of pronouns to create a more inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ people in the world.

Starting as a pro-democracy series of protests, then escalating into an outright civil war a year later, the conflict increased in intensity and brutality, ultimately creating a humanitarian crisis of biblical proportions and setting Europeans against each other on immigration. At the time of this writing, the conflict has yet to be resolved and now includes international intervention via significant world powers, including the United States and Russia.
