Happy Mew Year is the day when, already calmed after the fireworks on the human New Year, cats can celebrate the beginning of an entire mew year full of food, naps, cuddles, purrs and a healthy dose of catnip.

Introvert Day, World: January 2

Extroverts, those people that love attention and are easy to spot in a crowd are approximately 60% of the population. Introverts tend to be quiet in crowds, and are often not seen. This allows them to see and hear a lot though. Therefore, after a month or so of socializing, family and holidays, introverts need a day to rest and recharge. Since 2011, January 2 has been set aside to celebrate these quietly powerful members of society and give them the greatest gift of all: rest and relaxation.

Laba Festival (CN): January 2

Originally, the celebration of the new harvest known as the Laba Festival was a national event in China and other Buddhist countries. With the spread of Buddhism throughout the region, it became a day of celebration marking the enlightenment of Gautama Buddha at the age of 35. This is the day the faith and Buddhist lifestyle. Laba congee, a porridge of several types of rice, beans, peanuts, dried fruit and lotus seeds, is the official dish of the day. Modern versions often incorporate tofu, potato and meat.

Personal Trainer Awareness Day coincides with the majority of us making New Year's resolutions to get in shape and exercise. From their 2005 press release on the day: PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLORIDA (PRWEB) DECEMBER 9, 2005 The co-founders of January 2nd's National Personal Trainer Appreciation Day, Jim Labadie and Joey Atlas, know the holidays can be a calorically challenging time of year. To avoid putting on extra weight this season, they advocate starting a fitness plan before the festivities begin. Most people realize getting more physical activity and eating a nutritious diet of small, frequent and nutritious meals six days a week is critical to keeping weight off. However, to keep ones sanity, especially around the holidays, it's a good idea for people to give themselves one ""cheat"" or "guilt-free" day per week. Atlas explains, "The 'guilt-free' day should be one day out of the week when you allow yourself to eat anything you really, really want. During the holidays it is a good idea to have your guilt-free day on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, for example. At the same time it's important to understand the splurging must be limited to that one day. Behaving yourself at other holiday functions, such as office parties, will be made easier knowing your day is coming." Other tips include: 1-Walking extra laps around the mall when shopping. 2-Taking a 10-minute walk after a large holiday meal to burn calories and improve digestion. 3-Limiting alcohol consumption due to the fact it often leads to making poor food choices. 4-Writing down fitness goals and sticking to them. 5-Having a clear picture in your mind of how great you're going to feel after the holidays having kept the weight off. International Science Fiction Day is celebrated annually on January 2, the birthday of science fiction author Isaac Asimov in 1920. An American author and professor of biochemistry at the Boston University, Asimov is best known for his works of science fiction and popular science. Asimov has multiple awards, including 2 Nebula awards and 9 Hugo awards. Although Asimov is far from being the first author in the genre, he is viewed by many as the father of modern science fiction through his works including: The Foundation; I, Robot; Bicentennial Man; Azazel; The Edge of Tomorrow; The Fantastic Voyage; and many others.
