Also known as 'killer wales', orcas rely on salmon and other sea life for their diets. This month brings together researchers, advocates, and orca fans to raise the awareness of the threats facing these magnificent whales. This event first ran in 2006.

National Pollinator Month began as a weekly event in the United States and Canada and has been expanded to a full month as of 2020. If you grew up before the 1990s you probably remember seeing a lot of bees and butterflies in the summer. They were everywhere, anywhere there were flowers. Take a walk around your neighborhood today and more likely than not, you won't see a single bee or butterfly. Where did they all go? Insecticides and other chemicals have drastically culled the population of bees and other pollinators over the past two decades. This is devastating to food production and biodiversity. PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Awareness Day ran from 2010-2013. In 2014 the US Congress made this a month long event. It has since gone world wide. PTSD month supported by the National Center for PTSD (NCPTSD). This event encourages people become aware of the signs of PTSD and provide effective treatments for the disease. Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder, which manifests after a person is exposed to a traumatic event including rape, being forcibly separated from your parents, war, being a victim of crime, bullying or domestic violence.

The rose is the official flower of June via tradition and thus June is known as National Rose Month. Roses come in over 150 species have existed for 35 million years (fossils have been discovered) and are native to the Northern Hemisphere. It is believed this fragrant flower was first cultivated in China approximately 5,000 years ago. Throughout this month, florists are encouraged to present different varieties of roses. In 1986 the rose was declared the official flower and made part of the United States National Emblem by President Ronald Reagan.
