The Sundance Film Festival in London is organized by the Sundance Institute. It showcases the work of European and International indie filmmakers. Founded in 1981 by Robert Redford, Sundance Institute is a nonprofit organization that provides and preserves the space for artists in film, theatre, and new media to create and thrive. The Institute's signature Labs, granting, and mentorship programs, dedicated to developing new work, take place throughout the year in the U.S. and internationally. The Sundance Film Festival and other public programs connect audiences to artists in igniting new ideas, discovering original voices, and building a community dedicated to independent storytelling. PLEASE NOTE: All televised and venue specific events (sporting, concerts, trade shows, etc.) should be treated as estimated, even if the dates are set. Several factors can cause an event to change dates at the last minute including weather, strikes, natural disasters, political upheaval, conflicting programming and current events. Friendship, Intl. Day of: July 30

International Day of Friendship celebrates friendship, promotes cultural peace and seeks to build connections between different communities and countries. On this day, friends exchange gifts and tokens to show their appreciation of each other. Paraguay was the first country to observe World Friendship Day on July 30, 1958, as proposed by Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho. It is said to have originated in the US in 1919. However, it was Joyce Hall, the Hallmark cards founder, who actively promoted this event in 1930. In 1998, Winnie-the-Pooh was designated as the Ambassador of Friendship by Nane Annan, the wife of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, in an event co-sponsored by the UN Department of Public Information and Disney Enterprises and hosted by Kathy Lee Gifford. By July in 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared July 30 as the International Day of Friendship. India and the United States observe this day on the first Sunday in August and refer to it as World Friendship Day. The rest of the world tends to observe it on July 30 as International Friendship Day. Both events are created by the United Nations. Dates of observance can vary by nation.

Whirlpool Corporation has its entry for fun in the sun within each year's event calendar with National Get Gnarly Day. This event was originally launched in 2016 as an employee promotion aimed at increasing customer satisfaction and fostering teamwork in the achievement of goals. Today, it is adopted throughout the US as a day of discovery, action and experimentation. Gnarly is American slang and it can mean gross, or mega cool. Choose your definition. Human Trafficking, World Day Against: July 30

In 2013 the United Nations designated July 30 each year as World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, or World Day Against Human Trafficking to raise awareness of the situation and highlight the stories of victims. The research organization Polaris has compiled heat maps and statistics and current statistics on human trafficking in the United States that can be seen here: https://polarisproject.org/human-trafficking/facts According to their latests numbers, as reported by the International Labour Organization and other global authorities: The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally. 81% of them are trapped in forced labor. 25% of them are children. 75% are women and girls. The International Labor Organization estimates that forced labor and human trafficking is a $150 billion industry worldwide. The U.S. Department of Labor has identified 139 goods from 75 countries made by forced and child labor. In 2016, an estimated 1 out of 6 endangered runaways reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were likely child sex trafficking victims. Of those, 86% were in the care of social services or foster care when they ran. There is no official estimate of the total number of human trafficking victims in the U.S. Polaris estimates that the total number of victims nationally reaches into the hundreds of thousands when estimates of both adults and minors and sex trafficking and labor trafficking are aggregated.

Jazz, Satchmo Summerfest (US-LA)(1901): July 31 - August 1

Satchmo Summerfest lights up New Orleans, Louisiana's French Quarter each summer and features food, music and Southern jazz culture. The entire festival is in the spirit of the legendary International Ambassador of Jazz, Louis Armstrong, whose nickname was Satchmo. He was born August 4, 1901. This is one of the most popular events in the city after Mardi Gras.

Lughnasadh, North: July 31 - August 1

Lughnasadh is a Gaelic festival that marks the beginning of the harvest season. Celebrated by the Irish, Scottish and those living in the Isle of Man, Lughnasadh or Lughnasadh is often held between the autumn equinox and the summer solstice, which incidentally falls on August 1. Typically the celebration begins the day before on the evening of July 31. One of the four seasonal festivals, Gaelic people climb hills and mountains, particularly the Croagh Patrick during this festival. This festival is also the time that the fields are blessed for better harvest.
