Transgender people are those who through operations and hormones change the sex they were born into, going from female-to-male or male-to-female. A transgender person can also be someone who simply chooses to dress and act differently than the sex they were born with. Approximately 1.4 million people are transgender worldwide. Each year around the world transgender people are attacked and often killed solely because they are transgender. This event was first created to mark the murder of Rita Hester on November 28, 1998.

Today marks the anniversary the first manned hot air balloon flight November 21, 1783 in France by Jean-Francois Pilatre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes. This flight began in Paris and floated for 25 minutes before touching down in the suburbs of Paris, 5 miles away. The historic event was witnessed and documented by United States founding father, Benjamin Franklin, in person.

Donate Life Thank You Day (AU): November 21

Donate Life Thank You Day is held annually on the third Sunday in November. Nearly 900,000 or two-thirds of South Australians over the age of 16 are on the Australian Organ Donor Register. Around 1,400 Australians and their families are waiting for a transplant with a further 12,000 people on dialysis. Sixty-five per cent of Australians have discussed organ donation with their family and 69 per cent are willing to donate but only 33 per cent of adults nationwide have joined the Register. Australia-wide last year, organ donation proceeded in 91 per cent of cases where the deceased was a registered donor. Organ donation drops to just 52 per cent if the deceased was not registered and the family had no prior knowledge of their wishes. Transplant recipients can express their appreciation by writing to the family of their donor via their transplant unit. Such correspondence is de-identified then provided to the donor family by DonateLife.
