Each year Ataxia UK sponsors International Ataxia Awareness Day. Ataxias are a rare group of neurological conditions that affect balance, coordination, and speech. The condition doesn't discriminate and can affect anyone of any age. Studies suggest around 10,000 people live in the UK with a form of ataxia. Some forms of ataxia are treatable, but there is still no cure in most cases. A recent poll showed that only 10% of the UK population have heard of ataxia.

Conceived and promoted by The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, this event aims to encourage parents to pay more attention to their children and drive parental engagement as an effective tool to help keep kids away from trouble. Sitting down to dinner as a family goes a long way towards achieving this goal.
