Each year the ASPCA sponsors Animal Advocacy Day to champion the rights of animals. The latest initiative is getting the HEART Act passed through congress. ASPCA explains: "The Help Extract Animals from Red Tape (HEART) Act (H.R. 398/S. 2633) would expedite the lengthy process for rehoming and rehabilitating animals seized in federal animal fighting cases. It would also hold their owners financially responsible for their cost of care, relieving the burden on the shelters that house and care for victims pending the outcome of court proceedings. Notably, the HEART Act would allow courts to consider animals' welfare when facing delays in the judicial process. These victims of animal fighting deserve every chance we can give them to move swiftly to their new lives, and the shelters and law enforcement agencies who come to their rescue should not be hampered by the sometimes overwhelming financial burden of their care." Beltane (Bealtaine, May Eve, Walpurgis Night, Cyntefyn, Roodmass, and Cethsamhain) is a Wiccan and Celtic neopagans celebration that falls between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. Considered one of the essential celebrations in Gaelic regions, it commemorates the union of the goddess May Lady and the god May Lord. Customs include lighting bonfires and driving cattle between them to protect the animals from disease in the coming year. May flowers are left on doorsteps to ward off evil. If you haven't seen the 2021 multiple Oscar-winning film "CODA," it's highly recommended and provides an intimate and comedic view of this dynamic. Here are some ideas for activities to celebrate MFD Day: Organize a panel discussion about "what CODA means to me?" Share a funny experience about being a CODA, having deaf parents, or dealing with hearing people who did not understand our families. Make Mother-Father-Deaf Day cards to give to deaf parents.

Theodor Herzl Day is a day of commemoration in Israel that honors the life and legacy of Theodor Herzl, who is widely regarded as the father of modern political Zionism. The holiday is observed annually on the tenth of Iyar, the Hebrew date of Herzl's death, which usually falls in May. Theodor Herzl was an Austro-Hungarian journalist and playwright who became a passionate advocate for the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine. He first became involved in the Zionist movement in the late 19th century, and he later played a key role in organizing the First Zionist Congress, which was held in Basel, Switzerland, in 1897. Herzl's vision for a Jewish state in Palestine was based on the idea of political Zionism, which called for the creation of a Jewish homeland through political means, rather than through religious or cultural ties. Herzl's efforts to promote the Zionist cause helped to galvanize the Jewish community around the world, and his work laid the foundation for the eventual establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. Herzl died in 1904 at the age of 44, and he is buried in Jerusalem. Theodor Herzl Day was established as a national holiday in Israel in 2007, in recognition of Herzl's pivotal role in the establishment of the State of Israel. It commemorates the inauguration of the first president of the United States, George Washington, on April 30, 1789.
