Bereaved Spouses Awareness Month supports spouses who have lost a partner. Often people don't know what to say to or do for grieving spouses. Sometimes, they turn away and do nothing. People are encouraged to turn back and begin to reach out to bereaved spouses by giving them someone who will listen to them without advising them, a shoulder to cry on, and a hug when appropriate and needed. This event inspires people to "be there" for the bereaved.

Black Pound Day (UK): April 1

Born in 2020 in the wake of the Black Lives Matter global protest, Black Pound Day in the United Kingdom is a monthly event occurring on the first Saturday of each month (except the first day, which was held in June 2020). The purpose is to ask consumers to support Black-owned businesses on this day by shopping at them or giving their patronage. Musician DJ Swiss created it.

Black Women's History Month, Intl: April

International Black Women's History Month celebrates the contributions, struggles, and achievements of Black women worldwide. It provides an opportunity to recognize the intersectional experiences of Black women, including their race, gender, class, sexuality, and other factors that shape their lives. Throughout the month, events honor the achievements of Black women in various fields, including arts, literature, science, politics, and social justice. It is also a time to reflect on the ongoing struggles that Black women face in their efforts to achieve equality and justice and to recognize the vital role that Black women have played in the fight for civil rights and social justice worldwide. International Black Women's History Month, created in 2014, provides a platform for celebrating Black women's contributions and amplifying their voices.

Cancer Control Month: April

National Cancer Control Month began as a joint congressional and presidential decree on March 28, 1938 (52 Stat. 148; 36 U.S.C. 103). It is renewed annually by the President. Each year an estimated half million Americans will lose their lives to cancer, and three times that many will be diagnosed with this devastating illness. Federally funded research has brought about landmark advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment that promise real change for the millions of Americans facing this disease. Sophisticated analysis continues to shed light on the molecular basis of cancer and unlock new therapies. Innovative studies pave the way for effective treatments for deadly cancers, including melanoma. And new research shows that screening procedures can reduce mortality from lung cancer, which could save lives among those at most significant risk. Our pets suffer from a sedentary lifestyle as much as we do, and this has led to an epidemic in obesity amongst the American pet population. Canine Fitness Month aims to change that by getting pets and owners out and moving. The most straightforward game, of course, is "fetch."
